This is an After Action Report of "War of the Ring" by ARES Games.
We played it with a new expansion set: "Worriors of Middle-Earth"
for the first time. I, sinyamag, played Free Peoples (FP), and my opponent,
Oka-san, played Shadow player (SP). This expansion introduces three facitons
for each side. FP has Ents, Eagles, and Dead Men of Dunharrow. SP has Corsairs
of Umbar, Spiders, and Dunlendings. Each faction has 8 figures, and they
are played using Faction Event Cards, which is drawn by one card every
turn on top of the usual event cards. Once a faction is introduced into
play, that side has a benefit of an extra die (Faction Die), which is mainly
used for recruiting faction figures, or playing and drawing Faction Event
Cards. Now what was the outcome of the One Ring?

-FP passed.
-SP(M) made Isengard at war.
-FP(C) moved the Fellowship without being hunted.
-SP(A) moved 2-0-0 from Nurn to Gorgoroth, and 3-1-0 from Far Harad to
Near Harad.

-FP(C) moved the Fellowship once more with success.
-SP(A) moved 5-0-0 from Gorgoroth to Minas Morgul, and 4-1-1 from Barad-Dur
to Gorgoroth.

-FP(M) raised the political level of Gondor to 1.
-SP(A) moved 5-2-0 from Near Harad to Umbar, and 10-0-1 from Minas Morgul
to South Ithilien. There had been 3-0-0 in Umbar already, so it was 8-2-0
(full stack) now.
-FP(C) moved the Fellowship again. But it was hunted this time. The hunt
tile was "2" with reveal icon. FP decided to reveal the Fellowship
in Moria, hence one more hunt tile was drawn. But this tile was "0"
with reveal icon, which had no extra effect to the Fellowship. Gandalf
the Grey was dead in Moria, just like the "true" history... (^_^;

-SP(M) introduced Saruman the White in play at Isengard.

Turn 2
Hunt dicex1. FP dice: Cx2, M, M/A. SP dice: Sx1, Cx2, Ax2, M, E.
-FP(M) hid the Fellowship with the ability of Stridor, who is now the new
guide.
-SP(M) advance the political track of Sauron to "War".
-FP passed.
-SP(A) moved 4-1-1 from Gorgoroth to Minas Morgul, and 5-0-1 from Morannon to Dagorlad.

-FP passed.
-SP(A) moved 4-1-1 from Minas Morgul to North Ithilien, and 5-0-1 from
Dagorlad to North Ithilien, joining two armies to make up 9-1-2.
-FP(C) moved the Fellowship, but the hunt was a success. The hunt tile
was the Eye of Sauron, which inflicted 1 damage with a reveal icon. The
Fellowship moved to Dimrill Dale, being revealed. We forgot to draw one
more hunt tile, having departed from the eneny fortress and got revealed.

-FP(M) introduced Eagles faction, and placed two Eagle figures in Eagles' Eyrie.

-SP(E) played "Not Anybody's Side", making Ents and Eagles Faction Event Cards unusable.
-FP(C) hid the Fellowship.
-SP(C) moved 9-1-2 from Dead Marshes to Druadan Forest, making Gondor Active.
Turn 3

-FP(W) introduced Gandalf the White at Fangorn.

-SP(C) attacked Minas Tirith with 9-1-2 in Druadan Forest. FP retreated
into the Fortress, and all the SP units advanced to seige Minas Tirith.
The defender was 3-1-1 only. This attack made Gondor at War.

-FP discarded M/A and let "Not Anybody's Side" card be discarded.
-SP(M) introduced Witch King at Minas Tirith, making all the FP nations
Active.
-FP(M) raised the political level of Rohan to "2".
-SP(E) played "Pits of Mordor", mustering 2-0-0 at Minas Morgul,
Dor Guldur, and Moria, respectively.

-FP(R) introduced the Ents into play, placing two Ent figures in Fangorn..

-SP(A) moved 10-0-1 from South Ithilien to West Harondol, and 7-1-1 from
Dor Guldur to Western Brown Lands.

-FP(C) moved the Fellowship without success. The hunt tile was "1"
with reveal icon. The Corruption point was now "2", and the Fellowship
moved to Parth Cereblant, being exposed.

-SP(M) introduced the Spiders in play, and placed one spider in Dol Guldur,
and one in Minas Morgul.


Turn 4
Hunt dicex1. FP dice: Cx5+P. SP dice: Sx1, Ax2, Mx2, Ex2, M/A+R SP side
also gained a faction die, for it had now a new Faction of Spider in play.
-FP(C) hid the Fellowship
-SP(A) attacked Pelargir (1-0-0) with 10-0-1 in West Harondol. Both side
had no hit, and the defender retreated to Lamedon..
-FP(C) played "Axe and Bow", preparing to reduce hunt damages
by one point.
-SP(M) advance the political track of Southron/Eastering to level 1.
-FP passed.
-SP(M) put Southron/Eastering to War.
-FP passed.
-SP(R) introduced the Corsairs of Umbar, placing 3 Corsair figures at Umbar.

-FP(C) moved the Fellowship, but it was again hunted. The hunt tile was
"3" without reveal. Casualty was decided randomly, and Stridor
the guide was chosen, unfortunately. He was gone forever. No extra damage
was added to the Corruption, which remained "2".
-SP(A) attacked Lamedon (1-0-0) with 10-0-1 in Pelargir. The defender was eliminated and 5-0-1 advanced to Lamedon after the battle.

-FP(P) played "Speed Greater Than Any Wind", adding one Eagle figure to Eagles' Eyrie.
-SP(E) played "The Shadow is Moving", moving 4 armies:
8-2-0+3 Corsairs from Umbar to West Harondol
3-0-0 from Pelargir to Lossarnach
7-1-1 from Western Brown Lands to Parth Celebrant
1-0-0 from Near Harad to Umbar

-FP(C) moved the Fellowship, but it was again hunted..(T_T) The tile was
"3" without reveal. With "Axe and Bow", two points
of damage was inflicted on Legoras the guide, killing him. Corruption remained
2. They are left with only three more areas to reach Mordor.
-SP(M/A) played "Ship of Great Draght". Three Corsairs in West
Harondol transported 3-2-0 to Lamedon, joining to 5-0-1 there to make 8-2-1,
then attacked Dor Amroth (3-0-0). Dor Amroth was now beseiged.

-FP(C) played "Mithril Coat and Sting", preparing to force SP to re-draw a hunt tile if necessary.
-SP(E) played "On on They Went", preparing a Special Hunt Tile
of "3" with stop icon.
Turn 5
The Fellowhip declared at West Emyn Muil to reduce the chance of being
hunted, for the Enemy Army and Nazguls had moved in Parth Celebrant in
the previous turn.

Hunt dicex1. FP dice: Wx2, Cx2, M/A+R. SP dice: Cx3, Ax2, M, M/Ax2+S.
-FP(W) moved the Fellowship successfully. He used Will of the West die
in fear of "The Day without Dawn", which forces FP to discard
all the W dice.
-SP(C) attacked Dor Amroth (3-0-0) with 8-2-1. He used "Relentless
Assault" and pressed one more round by reducing an elite unit, inflicting
3 hits in total and conquored Dor Amroth. Now SP gained 3VP.
-FP passed.
-SP(A) played "Ships of Great Draght". Three Corsairs in Dor
Amroth transported 5-1-1 to Pelargir, joining to 2-0-0 there, then attacked
2-0-0 in Osgiliath. SP inflicted 1 hit, but the remaining 1-0-0 retreated
to North Ithilien. SP advanced 6-1-1 to Osgiliath.


-FP passed.
-SP(A) attacked Minas Tirith (3-1-1) with 9-1-2+Witch King. FP inflicted
2 hits, and SP 1 hit.
-FP(M) played "Saruman is a Neighbor", placing three Ents figures
on the card. If SP uses "Voice of Saruman" ability to upgrade
two Isengard regular units to elite, one of the Ents figures on the card
is recruited without cost. Also FP can use any faction die result to recruit
an Ents figure on this card.

-SP(M) played "A New Power is Rising", mustering 2-0-0 in North
and South Dunland each, and 0-2-0 in Isengard.
-FP(R) recruited an Ents figure in Fangorn.
-SP(M) played "Her Own Offspring", placing a spider in Minas
Morgul, and another in Dor Guldur. Then two spiders in Minas Morgul moved
to Osgiliath, and two in Dor Guldur to Parth Celebrant.

-FP(C) moved the Fellowship, but again hunted. The hunt tile was "3"
without reveal. Gimli the guide was dead, and an extra one damage was added
to the Corruption, which was now three. One more area to Mordor now!
-SP(M/A) played "Denethor's Folly", eliminating a leader in Minas
Tirith, and forcing FP to be unable to play combat cards in the battle
at Minas Tirith
-FP(C) played "Elven Robe", preparing a blue "0" special
hunt tile.
-SP(C) moved 1-1-1+spiderx1+Corsairx2 from Osgiliath to Minas Tirith, joining
to make 8-2-3+Witch King+Spiderx1+Corsairx2

-FP(W) raised the political level of Rohan to 1.
-SP(C) attacked Minas Tirith (4-0-0) with 8-2-3+Witch King+Spiderx1+Corsairx2. SP pressed twice, reducing elite units to regulars, and inflicted 4 hits in total by Round 3. Minas Tirith was fallen. SP army was now 8-0-3+WK+Sp+Corx2. SP gained 5 VP.
Turn 6

-FP(M) put Rohan at War.
-SP(A) moved 3-0-0 from Lossarnach to Minas Tirith, and 8-0-3+WK+Spx1+Corx1
from Minas Tirith to Druadan Forest.

-FP(M) mustered 0-1-0 at Helm's Deep.
-SP(E) played "Orcs Patrol", drawing a hunt tile, which was "2" without reveal. Boromir the guide was dead, leaving only two hobbits: Merry and Pipin. (T_T)
-FP(C) moved the Fellowship successfully. They finally reached Minas Morgul.
-SP(R) introduced Dunlendings, and placed two Dunlendings figures in North
and South Dunland, each.

-FP(P/D) recruited an Ents figure in Fangorn with the effect of "Saruman
is a neighbor".
-SP(A) seiged Lorien with 7-1-1+Spiderx2 in Parth Celebrant. The political
level of Elf increased to level two.

-FP(M) mustered 0-1-0 at Helm's Deep.
-SP(M) mustered 0-1-0 at Moria.
-FP(C) played "By Chance or By Foresight", drawing three faction
event cards. Then he kept one of the three, and returned the other two
cards at the bottom of the deck.
-SP(A) moved 2-0-0+Dunlendingsx1 from South Dunland to North Dunland, and
5-0-0 from West Harondol to Osgiliath.


Turn 7
The Fellowship declared at Minas Morgul, and moved to Mordor track.

Hunt dicex2. FP dice: Wx2, Cx2, M/A+P/R. SP dice: C, A, Ex2, M/Ax3+R.
-FP(W) moved the Fellowship. Hunt is automatically successful, and the
hunt tile drawn was "1" without reveal. Pipin is now dead, and
the Corruption remained "3".
-SP(E) played "Candle of Corpses", which inflicts one corruption damage for each result of 4-6 for 3d6. SP inflicted 2 damages, which killed the last companion, Merry, and still increased the Corruption by 1. Now the Corruption is "4" and Gollum appeared as the guide.

-FP(P) played "March of the Ents", moving one Ents figure from
Fangorn to Parth Celebrant. This was intended to stop a seige battle in
Lorien in one round with the ability of Ents, which required the Entwood
to be adjacent to Lorien..

-SP(A) moved 8-0-3+WK+Spiderx1 from Druadan Forest to Folde, and 10-0-0+Spiderx1 from Osgiliath to Druadan Forest.

-FP(M) mustered 0-1-0 at Helm's Deep. Now there was 1-3-0 there.
-SP(R) recruited a spider at Dor Guldur, and another at Minas Morgul.
-FP(C) moved the Fellowship. The hunt tile was "2" without reveal.
The Corruption point was now 6. Three more steps to go!
-SP(A) moved 8-0-3+WK+Spiderx1 from Folde to Westemnet, and 10-0-0+Spiderx1 from Druadan Forest to Folde.

-FP(W) moved the Fellowship again. The hunt tile was "1" with
reveal. The Corruption was now 7. Two more steps to go!

-SP(A) attacked Edoras (1-1-0) with 10-0-0+Spiderx1 in Folde. SP suffered
two hits, but the defender was eliminated after 3 rounds of battle, for
there was no place to retreat to. Edoras was fallen, and SP gained 6 VP.
SP advanced only 1-0-0 to Edoras.

-FP(C) hid the Fellowship.
-SP(C) attacked Helm's Deep (1-3-0) with 8-0-3+WK+Spiderx1 in Westemnet,
and seiged it. 7-0-3+WK+Spiderx1 advanced to Helm's Deep, leaving one regular
in Westemnet.

-SP(A) attacked Ford of Isen (2-0-1) with 4-3-(3) in Isengard. SP suffered
1 hit, but eliminated the defender in 1 round. Only 1-0-0 advanced to Ford
of Isen, fearing the possible Ent attack on Isengard...

-SP(E) drew one card.
Turn 8
Hunt dicex1. FP dice: Cx2, Mx2, M/A+P/D. SP dice: Cx3, E, Ax2, M, M/A+P/D.
SP was hoping to roll many "S" (Eye of Sauron) this turn, so
that if the hunt tile drawn was the "Eye", it would inflict as
much damage as the number of hunt dice in the hunt box. But unfortunately
for him, there was no "S" in the roll. Bad luck for Sauron! (^_^)
-FP(M) played "Eomer Son of Eomund", mustering 0-1-1 at Helm's
Deep. Now the defender was 1-4-1 there, very strong with nine hit points.
-SP(C) attacked Lorien (1-2-1) with 7-1-1+Spiderx2. The seige battle was
fought only for 1 round, and both sides suffered 3 hits each. Now the political
level of Elf was increased to 1. The remaining strength in Lorien is just
2-0-1.


-FP(C) moved the Fellowship. The hunt tile was "Eye of Sauron".
There was only one die in the hunt box, so it only inflicted one point
of damage with reveal. The Corruption was "8". .One more step
to go!

-SP(E) drew a character event card, hoping to get a card that can inflict hunt damages to the Fellowship.
-FP(C) hid the Fellowship.
-SP(C) played "Foul Thing from the Deep", drawing one hunt tile.
It seemed he was lucky to have drawn this one in the previous action. But
the tile for this was "Eye" again, which had no effect in this
occasion. Bad luck for Sauron again! (^_^;
-FP used an Elven ring to change the die result from M to C, and moved
the Fellowship for the last run. The hunt tile was...... "0"
without reveal! The final Corruption was "8", and Frodo and Sam
were able to destroy the One Ring at long last. (^_^)
